Hard to believe it has been a whole week! I still have a ton of food leftover from last week personally because my husband was sick and I’ve been making boring stuff for myself. Except for this tuna salad which I made using tuna and chickpeas from at Aldi (and there is a variation that includes the Aldi Goddess dressing!).
Grass-fed beef is back for a little more per pound than last week ($4.99 vs $4.49) but it is sold in 1 lb vacuum sealed pouches vs. a 4-lb multipack like it was last week. So if you liked grass-fed beef but were hesitant to buy 4 lbs at once, this is your chance! $4.99/.lb grass-fed chuck roasts are available too. Boneless, skinless thighs are $1.69/lb if you buy the 3-lb family pack. I’ll be honest, I haven’t had the best luck with the family pack of the boneless, skinless thighs. The 1 lb packs have been fine but the big packs either seem to have huge thighs, poorly cut/trimmed thighs and I’ve even had some that had some breast attached.
Honeycrisp apples are making a triumphant return for a mere $1.29/lb. Summer squash must be in season somewhere because it is only 99¢/lb. My favorite Cara Cara oranges (citrus season!) are only $2.49/3lb. Texas Ruby Red Grapefruit is 59¢/each.
Some price drops on their organic SimplyNature line this week, about 30-50¢ each.
Lots of fresh, not frozen seafood this week! Fresh salmon (plain or flavored) from $8.99/lb down, and the same with fresh tilapia from $6.79 down. The salmon is available in halves or smaller portions which is nice.
Some snack foods and odds and ends: Little Salad Bar Spicy Tomatillo Guacamole or Tomatillo Avocado Salsa is back for $2.89 and spicy refrigerated pickles are $3.79/32 oz. Squeezable Hellman’s mayo is $3.49 for the first time I can remember. I hope this means they will get in more Hellman’s products, that is something I still have to go a regular supermarket to get. Lifeway Lowfat Kefir $2.79/each.
Best frozen deal: Sea Queen Raw, Peeled & Deveined, Tail Off Shrimp
$5.39/12 oz. This is my favorite way to get frozen shrimp, so easy to add to recipes. (remember to check the source!)
For nonfood items, it is an odd mix of bathroom items ($24.99 electric toothbrush, $9.99 memory foam bath mat) and products for mobility ($49.99 rolling walker, $19.99 toilet or bathtub grab bar). Oh and lip balm (3 for $1.69 which looks a lot like the Nivea stuff I bought in Europe). Update: I reviewed it here.
As I said, I still have a lot leftover from last week but I might swing by and pick up some shrimp and lip balm at least this week. Update: didn’t get shrimp but got the lip balm and I reviewed it here.
